SPRING Newsletter 2015

Happy Spring everyone! Finally. Our endless winter has drawn to a close. Birds are singing and blooms are budding at Brigadoon. The extended brutal winter was hard on us but was great for the fish. It snowed. It rained. All winter. We once again, a decade after the drought, have trout that exceed thirty inches in abundance. Big stupid trout. Apparently a trout has a two week memory. (How do they know that?) so Brigadoon has a particularly dumb bunch. Since we’ve been closed they just haven’t seen that many flies. The handful of those who have fished thus far are catching in excess of thirty a day. They will get smarter after they’ve seen a few thousand flies. We have available slots. Lots of slots. , ) Read More

FALL Newsletter 2014

Greetings Anglers, I hope everyone has had an enjoyable summer. Fall started early in the Blue Ridge. Really early. As in August. We have had the coolest summer on record. I have been at Brigadoon since early June and have had a fire almost every night. There has been no air conditioning usage at all. The water temperature has been around 60-62 degrees all summer. Unheard of. The fish are loving it. Me too. The leaves have already started turning. The handful of anglers who have fished here this summer have caught record sized fish and dozens of them. I’m pretty sure that each one caught at least one fish over 24 inches. A Brigadoon regular, Tim Morrison, caught over sixty in one day with 12 over 24 inches. Marty Wood, another regular, also had a spectacular couple of days and caught more than we could count. Read More

Yes We Are Fishing! Hello Everyone. I hope all are surviving the worst winter in living memory. I thought the worst day of the worst winter storm ever would be a great day for the Spring Newsletter. Everyone’s at home. Not a single intrepid rod has ventured onto the river the entire month of January. And so far no one plans to do so in February either. The schedule is WIDE open. And the fish are really huge and best, stupid. They haven’t seen a fly in months. Trout only have a two week memory so Spring fishing should be terrific. Read More

Hello Anglers! Fall has arrived in North Georgia and the fishing is fantastic! We certainly had no water level or temperature problems this summer. It rained almost every day and the water stayed cool enough to fish thru August which is usually our hottest month. I never thought August would be a great fishing month! The leaves are already beginning to turn and October should be a spectacular month. Read More

I hope all is well with all of you. Fall arrived early in the Blue Ridge with nights in the low 50’s and crisp cool days. The leaves are beginning to turn and the color will be a spectacular show through late November.

Twenty over Twenty: Our first weekend guests caught more than 20 fish over 20 inches. The “20/20” Club! The Spring spawn must have been prolific as we have a diverse trout population this Fall. We have hundreds of rainbows and browns in the 4 to 8 lb range and, of course, the monsters in the 15 lb + class are still out there. Please visit our Facebook page for recent Big Fish photos that our guests and guides have posted. Read More

March/April Newsletter 2012

Spring arrived mid February and stayed so everything is beginning to bloom. Bloom = great dry fly fishing. They are a healthy jumping lot and more numerous than ever. Many are jumping right off that hook. As usual the “long distance releases” still out number the fish “to the net” but the leaping and the dancing make the whole effort worth it. Please visit our FaceBook page for up to the minute shots of recent fish that were actually landed in the last month. We had the pleasure of hosting the Trout Legends tournament at Brigadoon and those pros encountered the same landing challenges as the rest of our guests. Read: about 50 % make it to the net. The tournament photos can be seen on our FB page and NGTO. A wonderful time was had by all. Read More

Hello Anglers Everywhere.
I hope this Newletter finds all of you well and dreaming of Spring fishing. I’d be hard pressed to call the last three mild months Winter. It been downright balmy. Although we’ve had a handful of “cold” days ie: below 45, we’ve had many days out of the last 90 that were well into the 60’s. Little green shoots are appearing weeks ahead of schedule. I’m quite sure that we can count on a hard freeze at some point in March that will nip all that blooming happiness in the bud. Read More
